Don't be deceived by the name. Although the objects of the club are "to encourage cruising and cruising races and to foster the social side of sailing on the Firth of Clyde and elsewhere.." the CCC organises Scotlands most important regatta, the Bell Lawrie Scottish Series as well as a full programme of passage races and some fixed mark regattas as well as cruising musters. The CCC Classic Malts Cruise is perhaps Scotland's most high profile cruising event and there is an annual 'Blue Water' regatta to some distant destination.
Operating from a prestigious office address in downtown Glasgow there are no club premises for the general membership but the Club has a large and active dinghy section which is based on Bardowie Loch on the north side of Glasgow. With facilities which are being continuously upgraded this group does important work bringing young children into dinghy racing and has pioneered sailing for the disabled in Challenger trimarans. Founded in 1909, the club has a large membership around the Clyde, many of whom are also members of other yacht clubs and as a result of being able to draw on such a wealth of experience, the CCC's events are impeccably organised and its publications (which most notably include the invaluable Sailing Directions) highly professional.
