The very large and now somewhat underfilled dinghy park around the clubhouse points to HSC's past as a burgeoning dinghy club in the boom years of the 1960s. Few clubs can boast an Olympic sailing medallist in their membership but HSC can claim Mike McIntyre as its own. The club is still very active on the dinghy scene with some other noted names in its membership and is a recognised RYA teaching establishment with a sound commitment to young sailors. Many of its one-time dinghy enthusiasts have, with the advancing years, moved to yachts and contribute to racing on the East Patch which is conducted in collaboration with Royal Northern and Clyde YC. There are few airs and graces in the friendly clubhouse which is basic and typical of a dinghy club setup with good changing facilities and a convivial bar area. Various national championships have been hosted and there are regular dinghy traveller's events. HSC's major open event for both dinghies and yachts is the 'Grundig' Regatta in August.
