For many years primarily a dinghy sailing club with facilities on the Largs shore, in 1999 LSC took the bold move of obtaining lottery funding and moving into its current magnificent new clubhouse within the environs of Largs Yacht Haven. Operating from such an expensive building is not without its difficulties but the club is able to provide a class leading setting for major national dinghy events (eg Optimist Nationals in 2001 ,Flying 15 nats in 2002) and part of the building forms the so-called Scottish Sailing Academy. With a large dinghy park and a huge slipway there is a busy dinghy membership and an active RYA accredited junior training programme which recently won a Volvo Youth Sailing award. The club aims for an inclusive family membership with both dinghies and yacht sailors and in 2000 the club took over the sole running of the Largs Regatta Week which it had previously shared with Fairlie YC.

There is a lively social programme also and the catered and gloriously smoke-free clubhouse welcomes visitors. Definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in Largs.
