Yachts taking part in the Fife Regatta formed an awesome sight. We had a wander around Largs Yacht Haven where the smaller ones were parked on Friday evening. This detail is the mizzen sheet tackle on Belle Aventure. They race to Helensburgh on Sunday and then race to Rothesay. The standard of presentation has to be seen to be believed. No deckshoes on these boats - white socks only. Go see if you can make the opportunity. The plastic boats just looked minging after absorbing the magnificenceof these craft. There are more photos here

Scottish Series - We were at Tarbert ourselves doing our usual handicap thing, this year in IRC 4 but having a good time. I don't really have any photos being more than usually preoccupied with keeping Troy on the move but anyone looking for pics should take a look at Scottish Images where Ron Cowan has some exellent shots. A large number of pictures by Nicky Kirk are also available. A few comments are now on the race report page but anyone who has some views to share or an account to offer should email me with it - it would be most welcome.

The full results for all classes can be browsed in detail from the excellent CCC website

Next Clyde racing event : Clyde Regatta 28/29th June from Kip marina

New! The 'At Kip Marina' page has been updated with a few new photies

Stinkboats and jetskis

Although we're not fans of motor cruisers particularly the vulgar white plastic monstrosities we'd concede that the trawler yacht types do look the part and they're admittedly useful for race committees. However we have very mixed feelings about RYA Scotland getting involved with supporting and developing the use of personal watercraft. Never having spoken to an owner of one of those things I have never come across anyone who doesn't detest them and any time I see/hear one in action I always wish it would explode in a ball of flame like in a Bond movie. It's a tricky area for the RYA but I cannot help feeling that attempts to promote responsible use of jetskis will prove futile. RYA Scotland has connected up with an outfit calling itself Powerboat Scotland. My guess would be that this is largely driven by the marine industry. The following is what RYA Scotland has to say on its own website:

"Following a meeting arranged by RYA Scotland, looking into ways of how powered boating might best be supported and developed, and included a number of individuals from a wide background in powerboating, jetskiing and motor cruising. The consensus of the group was that there needed to be a new organisation that could a) represent the interests of those involved with powered boating, b) help the marine industry serve it’s customers better and c) organise specific events that will promote safety and awareness, as well as giving structured activities in company to those who might be interested. The members of the organisation are currently both individuals and companies, and it is open to more people, as long as you are willing to support and help at the activities that it is involved with. If you would like to find out more, please check out it’s website – www.powerboatscotland.co.uk, or call Jane on 0131 317 4610, or mobile: 07770 604234, or email: jane.scott@rya.org.uk"

The stated Mission of Powerboat Scotland is:
To promote all facets of Power Boating and Personal Water Craft throughout Scotland

Ye ken noo. How long before there is jetski racing on the East Patch?

Clydesailing is a site aimed specifically at those of us who like to sail and race in ordinary type yachts on the Clyde and West of Scotland. The perspective is that of the enthusiastic club sailor who does not have the resources of the semi professional. We aim to provide information and unashamedly biased comment on local yachting events. If you are interested in yacht racing and sailing in Scotland please take a look around.

Our Clydesailing discussion board remains an excellent place to share sailing opinions and now that the racing season is over there is plenty of scope for discussion, ideas and hopes for next year. We now have next year's events calendar posted and any views on that are welcomed. We are also extremely keen to include any news, reports or pictures which you think might be of interest to the ever increasing number of yachters who use the site and if you have any retrospective stories or pictures of your 2002 season please send them to us and they'll definitely be used.

Chas, the author of this site, is the owner of Troy,an old 30 foot yacht which along with his family and mates he races and cruises
from the Clyde. I'd be interested in any comments on the site and will respond to any questions. If you are new to sailing on the
Clyde and have any questions or interest please email me. I'll either try to answer them myself or point you to someone who can.
You can use the reply page to email me.
