Kip Regatta 2005
|
As usual we were pretty busy trying to get round the course but here are a few
pictures snapped largely from the windward rail. All will enlarge to about 640x480
on clicking them. From left to right is Hold Fast, a First 31.7. Next is Crackerjack,
the well known Swan 45 charging through and next is local Oyster 26, Oyster of
Ashton with crew relaxing comfortably. On the next row I'm not sure why we have
so many pictures of Tan-it, the Sydney 36 just arrived from the Solent. Centrepiece
is 'Moorish Idol' a First 47.7 which we kept mistaking for 'Playing FTSE' and
here showing off its North 3DL flappy things and with Andy Malcolm and mates assisting.
We certainly noted them pull off some cracking starts. On the third row, Donld
Sharp's Seaquest 36 'Tundra' looks quite menacing as it hammers downwind with
the tubby little Wombat rather less so. On Sunday when we were struggling at the
end of the fleet we were being chased continuously by David Dale's 'Hika' a Sigma
38 and th last picture shows St Joan with Crackerjack stomping on what I think
is probably Good Craic, one of the Elan 333s which we failed to get in front of
on Sunday.
For Troika it was an event of two days. We were quite chuffed to get second gun
and a third place on Saturday morning but on Sunday we had lost our bowman (careless
really) and that resulted in some spectacular losses, the likes of which we have
not seen for some time at some of the mark roundings. We also gained some new
experience, trying out our No3 for the first time and finding that it was no use
when the breeze immediately dropped to 10 knots.
