I wanted to keep this page intact just for the record. Troy was sold in June 2004 shortly after the advert appeared and this page was posted on Clydesailing. She has gone back to the East Coast from whence we brought her to the Clyde and started racing immediately on arrival at Grimsby.

Finally, after nearly 10 years, Troy is for sale again. It'll be sad to see her go but we need a new challenge. She is still a great boat with loads of racing life left in her. For us she has been a fantastic dual purpose boat. Familiar on the Clyde having won her class at one time or another in pretty much every Clyde round-the cans event (including a class win at the Scottish Series 1997, 3rd in 2000 and noteworthy results at Bangor Week) and also a useful cruiser having done the family cruising fortnight for every year of our ownership achieving the coveted trophy for Best Family Crew at West Highland Week in 2003.
She's a Mistral 31 moulded by Fairey Allday Ltd and first launched in 1980. The original prototype, 'Roller Coaster' by Rob Humphreys was second in the Half Ton Worlds in 1979 and Troy is hull No 1 moulded from that. No less a sailor than Alain Gaultier purchased No2. There is already a lot of info on the design history on this website.

Troy is a delight to sail. She tracks beautifully and has a wonderfully light and responsive helm. She is easy to sail and we have no trouble sailing her 2 handed with complete confidence. Single handed sailing would be feasible with mainsail luff slugs fitted.. With the ability to tweak the forestay at will using the runners she can point with the very best and has devastating performance in light winds. She will surf readily down waves offwind - we have seen 12 knots. When cruising shorthanded we use an old No2 or No3 and find that is plenty unless in really drifting conditions. Cruising in heavy winds once the second reef is in the mainsail can be tacked inside the runners both of which can be left on for total security. We, and many others think she is a very pretty boat and underwater the hull is remarkably fair and free of the worst of IOR type distortions. The hull is in good condition and is strongly built and durable. The rig is new and the engine is just fine. The interior is not to Moody standard but it is practical with all necessary comforts. The boat has been continually upgraded in our ownership.
